# Install Kisuke

> Choose the desktop download for your computer, install it, and continue into your first Zen workspace.

Download the desktop app from the [Kisuke downloads page](https://kisuke.dev/downloads/). Choose your operating system and processor under **For desktop**, then follow the steps below.

Already installed? Continue with [desktop setup](/get-started/desktop-setup) to sign in, set up Connect, and connect an AI provider.

## Choose and install your desktop app

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="macOS">
    Open the Apple menu → **About This Mac**. A **Chip** entry identifies Apple silicon; a **Processor** entry naming Intel identifies an Intel Mac. See [Apple's processor identification guide](https://support.apple.com/en-us/116943).

    | Your Mac | Download choice |
    | - | - |
    | Apple silicon | **Apple Silicon** |
    | Intel processor | **Intel** |

    1. Select the matching macOS download and wait for the `.dmg` file to finish downloading.
    2. Open the downloaded disk image.
    3. Drag **Kisuke** onto **Applications** in the installer window.
    4. Open **Kisuke** from Applications. After copying the app, you can eject the installer disk image in Finder.

    Continue with [desktop setup](/get-started/desktop-setup). If macOS prevents the app from opening, read the exact message and use the recovery guidance below.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Windows">
    Open **Settings → System → About** and check **System type** under **Device specifications**. See [Microsoft's device information guide](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/experience/find-information-about-your-windows-device).

    | Your processor | Download choice |
    | - | - |
    | x64-based processor | **64-bit** |
    | ARM-based processor | **ARM64** |

    1. Select the matching Windows download and wait for the `.exe` installer to finish downloading.
    2. Open the installer and follow its prompts. You can choose the installation folder.
    3. Finish installation and open **Kisuke**.

    Continue with [desktop setup](/get-started/desktop-setup). The **64-bit** download is the x64 package; choose **ARM64** for an ARM computer.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Linux">
    Choose the architecture row first. The downloads page's **X86** row contains x64 packages; **ARM** contains ARM64 packages.

    You can check your machine architecture in a terminal:

    ```sh theme={null}
    uname -m
    ```

    | Architecture reported | Download row |
    | - | - |
    | `x86_64` | **X86** |
    | `aarch64` or `arm64` | **ARM** |

    Then choose a format:

    * **AppImage:** download the `.AppImage` file, open its properties in your file manager, and enable permission to execute it as a program. Then open the file. The exact control depends on your file manager; see the [AppImage quickstart](https://docs.appimage.org/introduction/quickstart.html).
    * **Debian:** download the `.deb` file and install it with your distribution's package installer. Review its dependency and permission prompts, then open Kisuke from the application launcher.
    * **Red Hat:** download the `.rpm` file and install it with your distribution's package installer. Review its dependency and permission prompts, then open Kisuke from the application launcher.

    Use a package format your distribution supports. If `uname -m` reports a different architecture, do not assume either row matches it. Continue with [desktop setup](/get-started/desktop-setup) once the app opens.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Set up your first workspace

Installing the app is the first step. The [setup guide](/get-started/desktop-setup) takes you through your Kisuke account, Connect on this computer, and provider access.

After setup:

1. [Open a project](/projects/open-a-project) and check its computer and working folder.
2. Enter [Zen mode](/zen-mode) to keep the conversation and supporting tools together.
3. [Choose an available model](/models/overview) from a connected provider such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.
4. Ask for a small read-only explanation of the project before requesting changes.

## Use Kisuke on a phone or in a browser

The [downloads page](https://kisuke.dev/downloads/) also has **For mobile** and **For web** sections. Use its current iOS or Android link to install the mobile app, or its web link to open the browser client.

To work with a computer's project from either client, prepare that computer and follow [Connect devices and pair your phone](/workspace/devices). Installing a client does not make a project computer available by itself.

### Need Connect on a server?

The **For servers** section provides the **Kisuke Connect** command-line installation. Use that section for a server setup. For the desktop workspace described in these guides, choose a desktop installer above and follow the app's [Connect setup](/get-started/desktop-setup#set-up-connect).

## Resolve an installation problem

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The download does not start or reports an error">
    Return to the [downloads page](https://kisuke.dev/downloads/) and select the current package for your operating system and processor. Check your browser's downloads list for the failed item and its error.

    If the link returns **403 Forbidden**, **Not found**, or another server error, keep the selected package name, error, and time. Report the failing link through the [Kisuke community](https://discord.com/invite/49cFTCdZyR). A visible download button does not confirm that a file finished downloading.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The package will not open or the operating system blocks it">
    Check the operating system and processor choice, confirm the download completed, and read the full message. A wrong architecture, incomplete file, dependency problem, or security warning requires a different next step.

    Use the official downloads page to obtain the package. For a publisher or security warning, retain the exact wording and ask for help before changing security settings. Include your OS version and the installer filename when reporting the problem.

    On Linux, check the package installer's dependency error or the AppImage's execute permission. Making an AppImage executable does not resolve a missing system dependency.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Kisuke opens, but setup or the first message fails">
    Continue with the failed stage in [desktop setup](/get-started/desktop-setup). Signing in, making Connect ready, and connecting a model provider are separate steps.

    If the workspace opens but a prompt cannot start, use [Troubleshoot a first message](/help/starting-a-chat). Keep the displayed error and selected provider and model. Review screenshots and logs for account information or private paths before sharing them.
